I had such a busy weekend with the photography workshop and walked away with so much wonderful information. I really enjoyed spending time with Andrea Modica. She was very generous with the information she shared about her personal experiences as a photographer. She spent a lot of time looking at student work, providing constructive critiques and pushed us to try and clarify what it was we really wanted to say with our photographs. Beyond the beautiful photographs she creates using an 8x10 view camera, is a person who is truly passionate about photography and teaching. I look forward to receiving a copy of her book Treadwell.
The great thing about New York, even after living here for two years now, is the opportunity to discover new things. I recently walked by The Morgan Library. The Morgan Library is a museum and research library located in midtown Manhattan. Recently, the library went under an expansion that was designed by architect Renzo Piano.
I decided to take a look at their website to learn more about some of their programs. One of their current exhibitions happens to be on Jane Austen called A Women's Wit - Jane Austen's Life and Legacy. They have a gallery talk on November 20th about the work and I am thinking about attending. It would be a great opportunity to explore the library and museum as well.
My other discovery is the Center for Fiction. This organization is dedicated solely to the art of fiction. There is definitely more to it than that so be sure to take a look at their web site as they have writing classes, reader's group and more.
I am sure to be back with a few more discoveries soon.
